MATERIALS PROCESSES - CASTING
Many issues arise between these two figures cast in plaster, the main being the question of why “poorly designed”, mass-produced off-brand toys receive no recogition as genuine pieces of design within the art world; and why, only when I decide to re-cast an object that is already casted and present it within an artistic context is it given consideration, and should I receive full credit for this? Additionally, it explores the idealistic and categorised representation of human form and gender that remains consistent throughout history. The object itself becomes a hybrid of both sculpture and children’s toy but can be deemed almost useless for both of these functions.
